My Story
My story begins in the mountain town of Vail, CO at the Vail Lacrosse Shootout.
I was introduced to the game when I was six years old as I watched my uncles and our family friends play at Ford Field at the Vail Lacrosse Shootout. The more I watched, the more I knew I had to play this game. At first, I had no idea of what the rules were or how the game was played, but I knew there was something special about the game. The camaraderie of the players, the movement and the gear. I wanted to be on the field! I will always remember getting my first stick at the Shootout; a yellow and black Hi-wall.
It's old, out-of-date and it's long been retired, but every time I look at it, I remember the day I received it and how much it meant.
For years, I played in my parent's backyard or at parks, but it wasn't till my freshman year at Regis Jesuit High School in 1992 that I played on my first team.
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play with such incredible teammates and to have been coached by an amazing set of coaches. My junior year at Regis we won the Colorado Division II State Championship and in my senior year followed that up with a second place finish in Division I. After High School, I attended the University of Northern Colorado where in my sophomore year I became the president, captain and player coach of the Men's Club lacrosse team. In my three years as president, I moved the team out of the recreation league into the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse League where we started facing off against the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Colorado College and others. After college, I went back to Regis Jesuit High School where I was the head junior varsity coach for three season (2001-2003) and later coached for three seasons at Smoky Hill High School (2010-2013) as an assistant varsity coach and then a freshman coach. While at the freshman level I realized that I wanted to help coach kids that were just learning the game and I wanted to help mothers and fathers and other members of the community learn how to coach the youth players correctly. In 2010, sparked by the request of parent's in the Colorado lacrosse community, I began coaching individual private lessons.
However, wanting to share my knowledge and love of the game of lacrosse globally, I embarked on a journey to learn everything I could from the best and brightest people in the game. The content on this site is the product of years of research, practice, trial and error. I hope that the material provided here helps you reach your goals and invokes the same kind of passion and love for the game of lacrosse that I have come to love and live everyday.
Thanks and enjoy the journey.
Sincerely,
Jeff Kissell
